6/30/2023 0 Comments Kentucky waterfall trip![]() As we entered our bedroom we spotted a mouse scurry off our bed. We both were very tired and wanted nothing more to go to bed since we had hiked all day on some local trails. and our Falls Moon Glow viewing, we discovered new droppings where a cleaning had been done earlier in the day. However, after returning to the cabin at 11:30 p.m. We were still hopeful we could see the falls and then leave the next day. I contacted the supervisor and cancelled our 3rd night and was given a partial refund. My poor wife, on our anniversary, was cleaning up this awful cabin. The cobwebs and areas I did not mention were not cleaned. A cleaning crew of 2 arrived quickly and did a superficial cleaning, wiping down of the areas I had mentioned to them. We spent the 1st night and contacted the management the next day. We left the lights on throughout the cabin hoping that would keep the critters from freely roaming the cottage. Other things not needed immediately were left in the car. We placed all our food in the microwave, the frig and our coolers to keep the mice from visiting. I was afraid to look any further for fear of finding more and/or the mice themselves. On the floor, kitchen table, on top of the refrigerator, in the kitchen drawers where the silverware was located, on the coffee service tray, in the coffee pot (don't ask me how this was possible), bath tubs, sofa and the bed. We found mouse dropping literally everywhere. We brought in our food and clothes for the stay and soon found unwelcome leftovers from the cabin's permanent residents. I had to give it a hardy shove to gain entry. The front door was badly warped and my wife could not push the door open. We checked in and were provided access to Cottage 502. Three nights to enjoy the park and see the MOONGLOW on the Cumberland Falls on our actual wedding date 25 years ago. This was to be a memorable get-away for our Silver Wedding Anniversary. In ended up working out because the Gatlinburg horseback riding was something like $80 a person! I can't say for sure but I'm willing to bet this $20 ride was better than the $80 ride. This horseback ride was extra special because we had to cancel our horseback ride in Gatlinburg Tennessee a few days before due to bad weather. But everyone thought it was funny and it was the joke of the ride. He kept stopping along the trail to grab a quick snack, eating leaves off of tree branches and leaves that had fallen on the trail. Except our 8 year old daughter was on a juvenile horse that hadn't quite finished his training. The horses are use to the ride you don't have to guide them at all. The horses were all well behaved and it seemed like they were well cared for. You go up and down several mountains and other than crossing a couple of roads you stay away from any signs of civilization and you feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere. He added our family of 3 to the ride no problem and we were pleasantly surprised by the cost of only $20 per person! The guide was very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. The guy working was in the middle of getting another family on horses and they were just about to leave for a ride. Driving in we noticed there was horseback riding in the park.Īfter visiting the falls we stopped at the horses to inquire about riding. We were traveling from Tennessee to Michigan and made a quick pitstop at Cumberland Falls. ![]() ![]() ![]() And we also had two great dinners, catfish and ribs! The food is buffet style, but the chef is a master and the food was delicious! The view of the river out the restaurant's windows are a bonus, as is the view from the veranda behind the lodge. The trails were spectacular, winding through the woods with the trees in full color! The price was very reasonable too.Īte breakfast in the lodge a couple times which is included in your stay. The wranglers were very knowledgeable and chose horses according to your ability. We were very impressed with how clean the paddocks were and how well kept the horse are. We were there during the full moon and were lucky enough to see the "moon bow" during two separate nights. Of course the waterfalls were the big draw. ![]() There was plenty to do at this resort, miles of hiking trails running along the river under beautiful limestone cliffs. The cabin was completely furnished with comfortable beds and a full kitchen including all cooking utensils, appliances and even an ice maker in the refrigerator! We also had a working stone fireplace! There was a porch out front with two comfortable chairs in which we spent many hours reading or enjoying a cocktail! What a beautiful resort! We stayed for one week in October in one of the old CCC cabins. ![]()
